Menopause is the 12-month period after a woman’s last menstrual period. In the years before this point, when women experience their menstrual cycle, hot flashes, or other symptoms, is called menopause or perimenopause. The transition to menopause usually begins between the ages of 45 and 55.

Osteoporosis wea kens and weakens the bones, so even minor exertion like falling, bending, or coughing can cause a fracture. Fractures associated with osteoporosis most often occur in the hip, wrist, or spine. Bones are living tissues that are constantly being destroyed and replaced.
